5 Things to Do Before Starting a New MMORPG

15 April 2009 No Comment

It is hard to find a new MMORPG that you will enjoy after you have played many other MMORPGs. Hopefully this list of 5 tips will help you find a new game that you will be sinking countless hours in, not something you will spend more time downloading than playing and also give you a head start in the MMO.

Ignore the Hype
Though there are good games that deserve the hype they are rare. Most of the time hype only raises the expectations of the game too much, making it less enjoyable and disappointing to play.

If there is one thing you can gain from hype is you know there will most likely be a large community when the game first launches. But, only good games will have a community that stays beyond the first week.

Head over to YouTube
When there is a new game there are bound to be some videos out there. Try to find videos with gameplay in them, CGs are just that graphics and hardly, if ever explain how the game is in-game.

Check out the in-game graphics and styling. Gameplay is king but graphics is queen, a game is more enjoyable if you find it visually more appealing.
Also there are many other great video streaming sites out there, so you don’t need to restrict yourself to just YouTube.

Find Reviews
Try your best to find a review of the game. This will tell you in more detail about how the gameplay and the systems in the game are.
Don’t worry if the game is only entering closed beta for the first time, there is generally someone that has an impression on it already or has written a review based on a foreign version. If you absolutely cannot find any written articles on it consider another game for now or take the gamble and try it out anyways.

Start downloading the game
If you liked everything you have seen thus far begin your download. Be wary of clients that are under 300mb. MMORPGs are great because they have a large amount of content and anything under 300mb may have very little of it.

Study your guides
While you are downloading start researching about which character or class you would like. Find guides so it will help you get a head start in the game as well as prevent build errors on your character.

Hopefully after you have followed the 5 tips above you have found a new MMO or MMORPG that you can enjoy.
